Reusing a document with templates

Save a document + its fields once, then send it repeatedly without rebuilding it.

What a template is

A template is a document plus field positions— and no people. There are no recipients to fill in when you build one, and nowhere to type an email: you choose who signs each time you use it. That's what makes the same template work for a one-off signature today and a different person next week.

Creating one

Either Save as templatefrom any envelope you've already built (draft, sent or completed), or New templateon the Templates page to upload a PDF and place fields from scratch. If the envelope you saved from had two signers, the template remembers that there were two signing parties — it just doesn't remember who they were.

Using one

Click Use template and confirm. You get a new draft with the documents attached; add the people who need to sign — individually or by attaching a contact group — and the field layout lands on them when you continue to the Fields step. Nothing is sent until you send it.

Editing and deleting

Rename a template from its card menu. Deleting one removes the template and its field layout — the underlying document and any envelopes you already created from it are untouched. Only the creator or an org owner/admin can rename or delete.
